What is the church? Is it more than a gathered assembly? Is it more than singing and preaching? Is it more than good people doing good things? In Matthew 16:18, Jesus said, “And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” That sounds more like a gathered army than a gathered assembly. This is a challenging series that explores what it means for the church to advance heaven and stop hell. “I will build my church” is an authoritative statement. Where is the authority of the church today? “The gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Where is the power of the church today? Does it bother you that hell is winning too many battles? It’s time for us to take back our authority as leaders and representatives of God’s kingdom.
